| THE ROAD TO AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE |

By Renée Protomastro, Founder & Managing Partner The Ad Pros LLC When I was 21 years old and working for a female executive in a New York Advertising Agency, I asked her a question. She was a woman I admired greatly, because in 1974 she was only one of a few women at the top of this mega agency I was fortunate to work for. I asked Peggy why she though she was a success, not just a financial success, but successful both in the quality and the spirit of her life. She answered, “You have only two choices in life—you can have an ordinary life, or you can have an extraordinary life. That’s it. It has nothing to do with money, or power. It has everything to do with the power of your choices.” I have tried to make Peggy’s words the theme of my life. An extraordinary life is a life of achievement, a life of meaning, and a life of reflection. Achievement begins with imagination. Dream large or dream small, but trust what you imagine, because what you daydream about is what you are supposed to be doing. An extraordinary life also has meaning, and meaning comes only from loving what you do. I have always loved what I do. Advertising has been something I wanted to be part of since I made believe ad agency in my parent’s basement as a little girl after watching Darren on Bewitched.The final aspect of the extraordinary life is the thing that makes it all so worthwhile, and that is perspective or reflection, which is why I believe we are here today. You have heard people tell you ‘Never look back, always look forward’…I say nonsense – always look back and as often as you can in the years as they go by. It is the only way you will know how far you have come. |
